Couple confronted by hammer-wielding man in their kitchen

A balaclava-wearing man armed with a hammer demanded property from a couple in their Dewsbury home.

The couple heard the back door of their Leeds Road home open on Tuesday evening and went to see what was happening.

They found the man in their kitchen. He raised a hammer above his head and demanded property but was challenged and made off empty handed.

He ran across Leeds Road close to the junction with Bywell Road, opposite the Tesco store, and was thought to have been joined by a second man.

The attempted robbery took place at around 7.45pm.

DC Peter Usher of Huddersfield CID, said: “The man we want to speak to in connection with the incident is described as 6’2” tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a black coloured balaclava with round eye holes, a black zipped up padded jacket (waist length), blue jeans and black gloves.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call 101.”
