Illegal taxi drivers caught by police officers in Dewsbury operation

Illegal taxi drivers with vehicle defects were caught by police officers in an operation to make the roads safer.

The Dewsbury and Midfield Proactive Team and partners stopped 75 vehicles, suspended one taxi from driving and made an arrest as part of a high visibility operation in Ravensthorpe

As part of the operation officers from the team, DVSA and Kirklees Council taxi licensing stopped cars travelling on Huddersfield Road from the Park Road junction to Ravensthorpe.

The team suspended the licence of one car immediately and gave ten rectification notices to taxis which had vehicle defects.

Tickets were also given to three drivers for not wearing seatbelts and one for a defective tire.

A 25-year-old woman who was wanted on warrant was also arrested.

PC Asad Kahut of the Dewsbury and Mirfield Proactive Team, said: “The aim of this operation was to target what we call the ‘Fatal 4,’ namely the four factors that contribute to a road traffic collision or serious injury. These are speeding, drink drive, mobile phone use and driving without a seat belt.
