Community group Engage Dewsbury organised the competition featuring players who left Thornhill, Westborough and Birkdale high schools in 1994.

The event raised money to go towards aid for Syrian refugees heading to Europe, and over £2,000 was handed to the Ummah Welfare Trust to distribute.

Westborough’s old boys claimed the title after winning their final 4-3 on penalties following a scoreless draw and extra time at the Savile Fields pitches.

Engage had help from Savile Town Football Club, who provided referees, and the Raza Islamic Centre who supplied refreshments and ran a barbecue.

“It was a fantastic event, everyone enjoyed it and it showed all that is great about our community. We look forward to hosting similar events in the future which will bring together people of all faiths to create an atmosphere of unity in Kirklees,” said Haroon Adam, one of Engage’s founder members.

Engage would like to thank all the local businesses who sponsored the event for their help and support.
