Flushing out figures for town’s public loos

The cost of keeping Mirfield’s public toilets open will be discussed when town councillors meet on Tuesday evening.

The town council agreed to foot the bill for running the facilities in Station Road when Kirklees Council earmarked them for closure late last year.

But there has been considerable confusion about the exact cost since then, with various Kirklees officers providing different quotes.

Coun Kath Taylor (Con) joined the Mayor of Mirfield and Kirklees representatives for a meeting last Thursday.

“We’ve been backwards and forwards,” she said. “There have been different town councillors involved and it was just getting sillier and sillier.”

But she said real progress had now been made, with Kirklees agreeing to remain owners of the facility.

She said: “We’re just going to be taking the services over – the cleaning and the running.”

Meanwhile, the toilets have been reopened after Kirklees’ building services team cleared a blockage.
