The dutchman who, until about 18 months ago, was the hottest property in world football, has fallen out of favour with Inter after reportedly refusing to accept a £1 million a year pay cut, and Turkish club Galatasaray had reportedly agreed a deal with the 28-year-old.

Sneijder, however, looks to be stalling on agreeing the deal as he waits for more offers from around the continent, and the papers can’t seem to agree on Liverpool’s next move, with the Daily Mirror claiming the reds have been put off, while the Express suggests they could make a move should the dutchman accept a wage cut. Queens Park Rangers striker Djibril Cisse is in talks with Qatari side Al Gharafa. Harry Redknapp is willing to let him go after Rangers securing Loic Remy for £8 million.

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola has emerged as a surprising/not-so-surprising contender to become the next full-time boss of Chelsea. Despite a patchy managerial record, the Italian was recently voted Chelsea’s all-time greatest player, and looks to be working well at Watford this season. If rumours are to be believed, Abramovic could give Zola the chance to take the reins at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

While speculation continues to surround Luiciano Becchio and a move to Wigan Athletic, and his club’s poor league form, Whites boss Neil Warnock has conceded that the Leeds job is the biggest challenge of his career, but insists he has no regrets about stepping into the job 11 months ago.

The club travel to Bristol City tomorrow, and Becchio has overcome the illness which kept him out of Tuesday’s FA Cup win over Birmingham and the 19-goal striker is in line to play against Bristol City despite United’s strong second-half performance at St Andrews.

Leeds claimed a convincing victory in his absence, scoring twice in the second half through Ross McCormack and El-Hadji Diouf, but manager Neil Warnock said it would take a “brave man” to omit Becchio tomorrow with United’s Championship season on a knife-edge.

Transfer speculation surrounding Bradford City stars Nahki Wells and Nathan Doyle has been brushed off by manager Phil Parkinson, who told the Telegraph & Argus that he had not received approaches for either.

While fleet-footed Bermudan Wells has been making the headlines, tank-like midfielder Doyle has forged an impressive partnership with Gary Jones in the middle of the park for the Bantams this season. The 26-year-old had been linked with a move to Coventry City, but Parkinson dismissed the speculation, claiming that the midlanders were not in a financial position to buy any of City’s players.
