Full employment for Kirklees College care students

The current Level Two Work Experience Diploma in Health and Social Care class have all been offered permanent or voluntary jobs before they have finished their studies. The students, who are based at the Dewsbury campus, impressed employers during placements in residential homes and day care centres, and also worked with substance users and adults with learning difficulties. Success stories include mature learner Leona Wells, 48.

“I’ve really enjoyed it because it has helped me explore another area and broadened my skills, which just shows how flexible the course can be. I feel like the course and work experience has woken me up,” said the grandmother.

Tutor Angela Hunter is delighted with her students’ progress.

“Their confidence has developed along with their knowledge and understanding. The support is there and the placements are waiting. Desire, commitment and enthusiasm are all that is needed to achieve.”
