Fundraising for children’s hospital

The parents of a child born prematurely whose life was saved more than once by a charity will raise money to say thank you.

Finley Blakeley was born nine-weeks early at Dewsbury and District Hospital last October and needed to be moved to a specialist unit at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield, by paediatric critical care transport team Embrace.

Dad Chris Blakeley, of Ullswater Avenue, Dewsbury, said: “They stepped in, took control of the situation, got the tube in place and within the next couple of hours they had Finley stabilised and ready for transport. Even though Dewsbury were fantastic, what Finley needed was an intensive care team like Embrace, who specialise in saving little babies’ lives.”

Chris and Finley’s mum, Jenna, are now supporting the Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Tour de Yorkshire fundraising campaigning, after Finley spent time there recovering.

Finley was born nine weeks early at Dewsbury and District Hospital in October 2014 and was transported to a specialist unit at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield.

A few weeks after he was discharged, on November 22, he stopped breathing while breastfeeding and had to go back to hospital.

After 11 days at Leeds General Infirmary he stabilised.

But only four days later he stopped breathing again due to bronchitis and went to the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield.

Finley is now six months old and has not been back to hospital.
