Generous backing for store appeals

Generous staff and customers rounded off a supermarket’s year of charitable work by donating gifts, food and money to local good causes.

Trolleys full of food from shoppers at Asda in Dewsbury went to Dewsbury Food Bank, while the store gave enough to two projects to feed 80 homeless people on Christmas Day.

Gifts were also sent to the women’s refuge and the children’s ward at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

A raffle raised £600, which will be shared by the food bank, children’s ward and homeless projects.

General store manager Tom Lax said: “We were overwhelmed with the support we received from our customers and colleagues.”

He thanked everyone who contributed, including Dewsbury Rotary Club and social services staff.
