Homes could be created in Dewsbury town centre landmarks

Four apartments could be built inside Pioneer House while the former Co-operative funeral parlour in Northgate could be converted into six flats.

Field House in Wellington Road (opposite the station) could be turned into 25 apartments and 10 flats could be created at the Auction Rooms in School Street.

The proposals come as a result of the government’s Clusters of Empty Homes scheme, which set aside £50m to bring empty homes back into use. Kirklees is one of 20 councils to receive a portion of the fund. It has been given £2,879,843 to create 125 one- and two-bedroom homes across the district. The plan will be discussed by Kirklees Council’s cabinet at Huddersfield Town Hall on Tuesday at 4pm.

The council will then have until March 31, 2014, to put together a firm plan for how it will spend the government grant money.
