How does the scheme save you money?

More than 1,000 homes in Kirklees, Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield and York are working together to find cheaper electricity and gas.

With the help of Leeds-based Community Energy Direct, they have formed the largest co-operative energy switch scheme in Yorkshire.

The scheme is being backed by Kirklees Council and neighbouring authorities.

Community Energy Direct expects the average home to save £115 per year.

Director Hugh Goulbourne said: “Local people have until midnight on April 17 to sign-up, without obligation, and register their interest.

“After that we will pass all the details to the consumer organisation Which? who will then negotiate with the energy companies to source the best deal available.

“The more people who sign-up then the greater the potential for Which? to source a really good deal.”
