Huddersfield Town striking out for Mirfield schoolgirl Bailey

Bailey Coppack, 12, is also getting support from Castle Hall School and from Huddersfield Town FC.

On Monday the family met the Terrier’s star striker Jordan Rhodes. The club’s March 10 home fixture against Rochdale will be ‘Bailey’s Game’. It will be followed by fundraising event at Canalside Sports Complex in Huddersfield.

Pupils at Mirfield schools will be able to get reduced tickets for the match and there will be a sponsored walk from Castle Hall to the Galpharm Stadium before kick-off.

Next week, Castle Hall is holding a non-uniform day which it hopes will raise £1,000.

Teacher Stephen Walker said: “The ideas are still coming in but it’s all looking very, very promising and a lot of the pupils here are really behind Bailey and very supportive.”

Although Bailey will undergo chemotherapy to try and treat her tumour, her family is worried about the side effects and has decided that the proton therapy available in the US will be the best way to treat her.

Ms Coppack said: “If after six months of chemotherapy there is no shrinkage of the tumour, she will have had a whole lot of side effects for no reason. The chemotherapy is just to prolong the time until she begins the proton therapy.”

It is hoped that the Department of Health will pay for the £100,000 treatment, but Bailey needs to raise more if her family is to join her.
