Inspectors rate care home ‘inadequate’

It said that Thomas Owen House, in Lees House Road, had to make improvements to its services.

Debbie Westhead, from the CQC, said: “We have made it clear that we will return to the home to check that the necessary improvements have been made. “If not we will take further action to make sure that people living there receive care which is safe, effective, caring and responsive to their needs.”

Owner Kevin Martin said: “We had got behind with a lot of the necessary paperwork. We are now fully compliant and we have passed every other inspection for 25 years. Every complaint was about documentation and there is no excuse, but I am 100 per cent sure we will rate higher by the next inspection.”

The CQC’s report said premises and equipment were not maintained, care plans did not show the most up to date information, there were problems with food and drink choice, and there was a lack of staff training and supervision.

The report also said people were not given enough decision-making in their care and there was no system in place to monitor the service’s quality.
