A Mass procession for pupils

Youngsters from across
Dewsbury Deanery came together to celebrate a Youth Mass and take part in a candlelit procession last Thursday.

Around 60 pupils from four Catholic primary schools went to the service in Dewsbury, along with older pupils from St John Fisher Academy.

The procession began at St Paulinus Parochial Hall and made its way down to St Paulinus Church where Mass was celebrated by Father Michael Hall for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

The idea for the service came from a parishioner who wanted to make Mass more appealing to youngsters.

St Paulinus School religious education co-ordinator Helen Regan said: “The evening was a big success and we’re hoping to have three such Masses a year. The young people were very receptive to it and we’re looking at June as possibly being the date for the next one.” Schools taking part were St Paulinus and St Joseph’s in Dewsbury, Holy Spirit in Heckmondwike and St Mary’s in Batley.
