Mirfield councillors including Martyn Bolt, Vivien Lees-Hamilton and Kath Taylor signed a ‘call-in’ notice in protest to a Cabinet decision to create an asset transfer scheme for the building on October 20.

Councillors can ‘call-in’ a decision for review if they think that it has been made without considering all the information or goes against the council’s constitution.

The notice reads: “We regard the Cabinet decision as failing to take due regard of the principal policy they refer to, that potentially their approach may not be consistent throughout the borough and that potentially the decision may have been predetermined.”

The overview and scrutiny committee meeting will take place at on Wednesday, November 18 at Huddersfield Town Hall from 10am.

When a decision is ‘called in’ it means that no action can be taken to implement the decision until it has been fully considered by the committee. However, the decision cannot be overturned – the committee can only recommend that Cabinet consider amending its decision.

The meeting is expected to last until mid-afternoon. During the morning session the committee will be hearing evidence from councillors concerned about the decision and also the Cabinet members on the reasons behind it.
