Everybody needs good neighbours – and that’s certainly true of Whiteley’s Garden Centre.

Whiteley’s has long been a supporter of Hollybank School, which is on the opposite side of Far Common Road at Hartshead, and this week donated more than £700 to its charitable trust.

Over the Christmas period, the centre charged customers 50p for netting their real Christmas trees – and has now handed over all the proceeds.

Manager Neil Redford said: “We are happy to support Hollybank Trust in any way we can and this is a great way for us to raise some money for them over the festive period.”

The garden centre and charity also joined forces in October to put on a free fireworks display.

Suzanne Dyda, from Hollybank Trust, said: “This is just another example of the kindness of our neighbours at Whiteleys Garden Centre. We hope to work closely with them during this 60th anniversary year.”
