More than 200 people attended the funeral of Shirley Auty, a deeply committed member of St Luke’s Church, Cleckheaton, for more than 40 years.

Mrs Auty’s son Neil said her pride in her church knew no bounds and that she would do anything to support it. She worked on the parish council, on various committees, visited parishioners who were less fortunate, ran social events and was chairwoman of the local mothers union branch.

He said: “Mum loved and was loved by so many.

“I could have written a book about mum’s life and what she meant to everyone. We all have our own wonderful memories of a truly strong, independent, hard-working and inspirational person. We are immensely proud that she was our mum, grandma, and mother in law and will treasure these memories always.”

Shirley Auty was born May 29, 1936, and died October 10, 2014, aged 78.
