The local council want to get the maximum economic benefit as an estimated one million people come to Kirklees next July for the grand depart of the Tour de France.

Kirklees Council has dedicated a section of its website to the event, offering advice to people and businesses who want to take advantage of the huge event. Potential opportunities include setting up temporary self-catering or bed and breakfasts, or setting up temporary campsites and car parks.

The council also wants to ensure a positive legacy from the Grand Depart. £20,000 will be made available for people to hold events in the run-up to the race, next year’s Spirit in Dewsbury will be Tour de France themed and a host of ride leaders will be trained to lead bike rides around the district.
