Health and wellbeing of patients and staff is paramount

The health and wellbeing of patients and staff at The Christie is extremely important to us. One of our highest priorities is monitoring, preventing and controlling infection.

As such, we have some of the lowest infection rates in the country and we have specific policies and procedures in place to ensure all of our employees maintain the highest standards.

Further to the article on your website entitled ’17 die from hospital superbug,’ which referenced The Christie: “The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, a specialist cancer hospital, said nine patients had been exposed to KPC last year”.

We wanted to assure the public that the nine patients mentioned had already been colonised before they were transferred to The Christie for cancer treatment and care. It is not an infection they contracted at The Christie and there was no cross infection with other patients.

We make every effort to reduce the risks to patients and prevent them from developing infections while they are in our care and wanted to reassure anyone who might have been worried after reading this article.
