Parakeet’s as free as a bird

Birds seem to be a popular subject for our reader’s picture.

Last week’s was a heron – readers were quick to point out that it was not a crane, as was stated in the story – and this week’s is a parakeet (we hope!).

It was taken by John Rhys-Vivian as it visited the bird feeder in the garden of his home in Hightown, a few weeks ago.

“It was obviously an escapee, since I don’t think that parakeets have colonised yet in this part of the country,” said John. “I know that there are thousands of feral parakeets in London, Kent and other areas in the south of the country.”
