Batley-based Forgotten Friends had its first evening on the streets last Saturday and hoped to recruit more volunteers to its cause.

Suhail Sufi, from the group, said: “The first night was a success.

“Even though we had 23 people we found we did not have enough supplies for all the areas we covered.”

He said that the 23 volunteers, who started their evening in Batley and Dewsbury before travelling on to Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford and Manchester, gave out 98 “homeless kits”, which include food, sanitary items and clothing.

Local businesses Bedmill, Mullaco’s and Chickano’s donated items to their cause.
