Road users urged to be cautious due to black ice in Kirklees

Police in Kirklees are warning road users to be cautious following a number of accidents linked to icy conditions.

Chief Insp Marianne Huison said: “We have had a number of reports of vehicles colliding and skidding in Kirklees district due to ice and black ice on the roads.

“Several collisions have occurred in Huddersfield including in Scar Lane, Golcar; the junction of Wakefield Road and Broad Lane, Moldgreen; and Leeds Road near to Great Northern Retail Park; however we would urge motorists to exercise caution on all routes.”

Kirklees Council deployed its emergency gritters last night and brought forward the evening gritting of the district’s main roads to 4pm.
