School Grapevine: New head comes to Westborough

With Mrs Napper now at work, we thought what better than to interview her on her views and opinions for our first Westborough News of the new term.

Not just on the future of Westborough itself, but also on her opinions on recent changes in education.

Our first impressions of Mrs Napper have been that she is fair, firm but friendly. She has been speaking to staff and pupils during her first two weeks at Westborough and has been a real presence in the school.

Encouraging the idea that ‘good behaviour will lead to good learning,’ we have been impressed with her positivity and can do attitude.

But what were her first impressions of us? Mrs Napper said: “I love the sense of community that the pupils and staff at Westborough have.”

She said she was very much looking forward to being a part of Westborough’s future.

Mrs Napper is focused on “young people being the best they can be,” and preparing pupils to be adaptable lifelong learners.

As senior members of the pupil body preparing for our final years at Westborough we found this particularly interesting.

We were keen to grill her on some of the educational issues dominating the news such as plans to cut school holidays. Mrs Napper summed up our pupil council’s feelings on the issue when she said that she would like to see “the success of young people celebrated and young people allowed time to be young.”

When asked about her best moments in teaching she simply said: “When someone finds something difficult and they succeed.

“Then they smile and I smile with them.”

Well she has certainly made us smile. We are proud to have her as our head teacher and believe she will guide our school to success.
