Sisters plan charity walk to help poorly two-year-old

Ten-year-old Rebecca Fozard contacted the Reporter to tell us about the trek she is organising with her sister Jessica, 12.

They want to raise money for two-year-old Oliver Field, who needs to go to Germany to have a rare form of cancer treated.

Rebecca, who goes to Bywell Junior School, said: “My mum knows Oliver’s mum, and he is only two, so we thought we would try and raise as much money as we could for him.”

On Saturday February 23 at 11am, the girls will set off from the High Park pub in Bradley, Huddersfield, and walk eight miles to the Commercial in Earlsheaton.

“We thought we would try and do as long a walk as we could,” Rebecca, of Bendigo Road, Dewsbury, said.

“We’ll be doing it with other people as well – my mum and dad are doing it too.”

Proud mum Vicky Fozard got to know Oliver’s family through her shop, Star Baby, in Huddersfield. She said: “I’m very, very proud of them.

“A lot of kids are not as interested in doing things like this for other people, but after Christmas it’s a time when people do start thinking about how lucky they are.”

Oliver was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was eight months old. After a year of treatment, his family was told there was no longer any sign of the disease, but found out it had returned just before Christmas.

His family want to raise £250,000 so he can get treatment overseas that will give him a better chance of survival.
