Spring Fair is new venture for group

A spring fair could be the next way for a community group to pull crowds into a town centre.

Batley Business Association member Sian Dawson had the idea after the Christmas Fair fetched streams of shoppers into Alfreds’ Way last year.

Speaking after the BBA’s annual meeting on Tuesday, the Reunion Cafe co-owner said: “It’s really a way of getting people to come and see something different.

“Because the high street is sadly lacking in diversity and this gives a lot of crafts people and stall holders that would normally do fairs elsewhere a chance to come, and gives the community something new to look at.

“The Christmas Fair wasn’t massive but was certainly the busiest that Alfreds’ Way has been for many, many years.

“People were getting really involved with it and took away their own piece of art.”

Minature garden-making could be one feature of the fair. Sian is currently in talks to gain permission to use Alfreds’ Way again, and hopes to include about 24 stalls.

A prospective date is set for Saturday March 28.
