The M62 at Wakefield is to be closed to all traffic this morning as an emergency repair is carried out.

Highways England were called at around 6.15am this morning to reports of a carriageway defect between junction 29 (Lofthouse) and junction 28 (Tingley).

A temporary repair was made and the road was reopened to all traffic shortly before 7am.

But a permanent repair will now be carried out on the same area, with all three lanes on the westbound carriageway closed to allow work to be undertaken.

The work will begin at 10am, and is expected to take an hour.

Drivers are warned to expect additional journey times and delays while the repair is carried out.

It comes just a week after Lofthouse Interchange reopened to traffic for the first time in eight weeks.

In a series of Tweets, Highways England said: "#M62 J29 #Lofthouse to J28 #Tingley This morning we attended a carriageway defect. A temporary repair was made to re-open all lanes prior to the peak morning traffic flows. At 10:00 we will be carrying out a permanent repair, this will require lanes 1/2/3 to be closed.

"This repair is expected to take 1 hour, we will continue to monitor traffic flows throughout to manage congestion. We are expecting additional travel times in the area whilst the work is undertaken."
