Trust wants patients' voices to be heard

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust – which runs Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital and community services in Calderdale – is looking for seven new membership councillors (MCs).

Two are needed to represent the Batley East, Batley West, Birstall & Birkenshaw, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury East, Dewsbury West, Heckmondwike, Mirfield, Spenborough and Thornhill areas.

MC’s are the voices of patients and their families in communities and they can act as the “eyes and ears” of the public.

Other roles include: sitting on consultant and senior nurse interview panels; carrying out PLACE (patient led assessment of the care environment) inspections; attending the monthly Trust Board meetings and attending groups to discuss performance and future developments on the frontline.

Ruth Mason, Associate Director of Engagement and Inclusion at the Trust, said: “Our Membership Council is the Trust’s link to our local communities and its views on all issues are very important to us as we try to provide the best care for our patients and their families.

Those interested are invited to attend one of two briefing sessions for prospective candidates. These will be at the Medium Training Room, Learning Centre, at Calderdale Royal Infirmary on Monday, May 23 at 6pm and the Board Room, sub-basement, at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on Wednesday, May 25 at 6pm.
