Two weeks of road chaos

On Monday, Yorkshire Water will start an emergency repair on a 1970s water pipe at the junction of Savile Road, Thornhill Road and Station Road.

Engineers will be working on the junction until the evening of Friday August 12.

For most vehicles, the roads will be open, though large HGVs will have to take a diversion.

Wendy Howarth from Yorkshire Water said: “The 500mm pipe dates back to 1974 and a number of coupling joints which connect individual stretches of pipe together have become quite weak over time, leaving the pipe potentially prone to the possibility of leaks.

“We’d like to thank local residents for their patience and reassure them we’ll be working hard to get this vital repair completed as quickly as possible.”

Thornhill Road, which links Huddersfield Road to Thornhill Lees and Savile Town, will be closed for five evenings from August 15 for £50,000 worth of resurfacing work.

Road improvements will be made from the junction of Fall Lane, past the junction of Calder Bank Road towards the roundabout that links with Station Road and Savile Road.

Weather permitting, the work will be done over five consecutive evenings between 7pm and 11pm, during which time Thornhill Road will be closed.

Traffic from Thornhill Lees and Savile Town going towards Huddersfield Road will be diverted via Station Road, Brewery Lane, Lees Hall Road, Ravensthorpe Road and Calder Road.

Vehicles wanting to reach Thornhill Lees and Savile Town from Huddersfield Road will be diverted along Calder Road, Ravensthorpe Road, Lees Hall Road, Brewery Lane and Station Road.
