Each year the club takes on a team fielded by the Woodman to raise funds for David Roebuck.

Mr Roebuck was injured while playing rugby in 1982 and is now in a wheelchair.

He was among the spectators at Sunday’s match and fun day at Hanging Heaton Cricket Club.

After drawing last year, Celtic won the game and Geoff McGill Memorial Trophy with one ball to spare.

Kath Webber, who helped to organise the event, said £400 had been raised for Mr Roebuck.

She said: “We’d like to say thanks to Hanging Heaton for hosting the event, all the players who took part, and everyone who supported the day.”
