WWI Centenary: New information about Batley soldier

His story is among the latest shared in a newsletter by Project Bugle, a Heritage Lottery-funded project to commemorate the soldiers from Batley and Birstall killed during WWI.

After reading our article last week based on the newsletter information, Jane Roberts got in touch.

She said that Pte Foley died on March 11, 1915, in Number Three Casualty Clearing Station, Poperinge, Belgium, and that his casualty form indicates that he was injured as early as March 6-7.

Based on Bugle’s research which used a newspaper article from 1915, that is now known to be inaccurate, we printed that he had passed away in a Boulonge hospital after being wounded on March 9.

However, we did print the correct date of his death.
