Young musical stars will shine at festival

The Pennine Music Festival takes place on Saturday April 27 and will feature soloists, a choir, a brass band and two orchestras – including one made up of remarkable young people with hearing difficulties.

The day is being organised by the Rotary Club of Huddersfield Pennine and will support the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Dalton, unique charity Music And The Deaf, Kirklees Music School and Chitrakoot UK, which helps improve healthcare in India.

Festival organiser Anthony Peel said: “We are proud to have all the performers who have given up their time to help others.

“We have been particularly fortunate in having three highly accomplished musicians as our main soloists.”

They are world class 16-year-old pianist Yuanfan Yang, Rastrick soprano Rachel Crisp and Jamie Smith, cornet player with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

In total, there will be more than 120 young musicians performing over the course of the day at Cathedral House, St Thomas’ Road, Huddersfield.

Other acts include Halifax Young Singers, Yorkshire Deaf Orchestra, Sellars Youth Band and Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, who will perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue with BBC Young Musician Of The Year winner Yang, who was raised in Leeds.

The event is backed by Yorkshire Building Society and tickets can be bought from the branches in Dewsbury and Huddersfield, any Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice shop or the venue itself.
