Captain Wood blasts 136 as Cleckheaton remain on top

Cleckheaton captain John Wood was in scintillating form last Saturday as he hit 136 to keep his side top of JCT600 Bradford League Division One.

Cleckheaton inflicted a 91-run victory on Hanging Heaton and remain 13 points clear of champions Woodlands, who defeated Pudsey Congs by 148 runs.

Wood dominated a 127-run opening wicket stand with Tim Jackson (47) and hit 14 fours and four sixes on his way to a season’s best score of 136 as Cleck closed on 292-8.

David Stiff (3-61) and Mark Lawson (3-66) were pick of the Hanging Heaton bowlers.

Gary Fellows made 52 in reply before he was run out, while Stiff (37) and Lawson (35) also contributed but Heaton were bowled out for 201 as spinners Andrew Deegan (4-58) and Ammar Mahmood (3-35) did the damage.

Woodlands also picked up a maximum 20 points following victory over Pudsey Congs.

Simon Mason led the Woodlands charge as he clattered six sixes and 21 fours on his way to 154.

Sam Frankland made 41 at the top of the innings as Woodlands reached 260-5 despite Richie Lamb claiming 3-7.

Congs were dismissed for 112 in reply as Sarfraz Ahmed claimed 3-15.

East Bierley edged to a two-wicket win over Lightcliffe.

Mark Gill made 51, passing 12,000 career runs on the way, before Andrew Rennison guided Bierley to their target of 196-9 with just two balls to spare as he finished unbeaten on 77.

Opener Charlie Roebuck (56) earlier top scored for Lightcliffe, who were pegged back by the efforts of Bierley captain Kez Ahmed (3-38).

Hanging Heaton suffered an agonising four-run defeat to Morley in the semi-finals of the Twenty20 Cup on Sunday when they made 116-7 in reply to the hosts’ 120 all out.

Woodlands suffered a 43-run defeat to Woodhouse Grange in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy semi-final last Sunday.

Sam Frankland claimed 3-55 but Woodhouse reached 263-7.

Frankland (53), Scott Richardson (44) and Farakh Hussain (42) all made useful contributions in reply but Woodlands were bowled out for 220.
