Clough in winning form — Hunsworth out of the cup

HOWDEN Clough gained an excellent 3-2 victory at Featherstone Colliery last Saturday in West Yorkshire League Division Two.

A fifth league success of the season saw Clough rise to 11th place in Division Two, ahead of Garforth Rangers on goal difference after their 2-0 defeat at Rothwell Town.

Fourth-bottom Hartshead are two places and three points worse off than Clough after their 3-0 loss at third-placed Hunslet Club.

In Alliance Division Two, Hartshead Reserves stay three points clear of the bottom two after a fine 4-2 home success over Oxenhope Recreation Reserves. Howden Clough Reserves suffered an 11-0 defeat at Rothwell Athletic Reserves.

Hunsworth’s hopes of glory in the West Riding Challenge Cup ended last Saturday at Shroggs Park in Halifax as they lost their third round tie 2-0 to Stump Cross.

Overthorpe SC dropped a place to fifth in West Riding County Amateur League Division One last Saturday.

Bay Athletic Reserves won 6-1 at home to Tingley Athletic (Chris Dennison) to move up to fourth, one place an two points clear of Overthorpe.

AFC Emley’s 3-1 win at Bronte Wanderers saw them move above eighth-placed Tingley who stand a point ahead of Hunsworth.

The only Premier Division game saw second-bottom Wibsey, who are two points clear of Littletown having played two games more, suffer as 4-0 defeat at leaders Tyersal.

Dewsbury Rangers remain bottom of the Wakefield League Premier Division after a 5-2 defeat at Rose and Crown Darton last Saturday.

Neil Dyson and Rob Smith scored for Rangers who are three points adrift of Battyeford Wasps after their home game with Crofton Sports was postponed.

Walton beat Kingstone United 4-2 and move up above Thornhill who slip to fifth place.
