Smith and Walker impress to set up Moorlands victory

Scholes were put under pressure by the Moorlands opening bowlers as Australian Nicky Smith claimed 3-32 and Andrew Walker (4-45) with the visitors dismissed for just 104 in 27.3 overs.

Moorlands were themselves in trouble when replying as they were reduced to 27-4.

Louis Brook led the way for Scholes as he claimed 5-43 as the young opener accounted for five of the Moorlands top six as they slipped to 59-6.

Wicketkeeper Michael Rounding steadied the Moorlands nerves and guided his side to victory finishing 32 not out.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers suffered a 138-run defeat at the hands of bottom side Golcar and have slipped to third-bottom.

Golcar have drawn level on 15 points with second-bottom Cawthorne and are now just three points behind Parish.

Adbul Wahid led the way for Golcar with a patient 97-ball innings of 56.

Aiden Hawkesworth claimed 4-75 as Parish battled back but Jake Lockwood hit 43 not and was supported by Craig Ruscoe (38) to further boost the Golcar total before Connor Rowlands (3-8) claimed the final three wickets as they were bowled out for 224.

Parish slumped to 86 all out in reply as their last seven wicket fell for just 16 runs.

Daniel Broadbent (28) top scored but Parish had little answer to Golcar captain Steve Whitwam, who claimed 5-9 to blitz the Parish middle-order and put his side on course for only their second win.

Mirfield suffered a 32-run defeat at the hands of Kirkheaton and have slipped to eighth place in the Conference.

Paolo Girardi led the way with 60, while Naveed Akram (43) supported as Kirkheaton were bowled out for 148, with Nas Saudagar (5-27) and Beau McGuinness (4-24) impressing.

Phil Scouller top scored with 38 in reply but Mirfield were dismissed for 116 as Girardi capped an excellent all-round game by taking 5-15.
