Woodlands hit top spot

The Albert Terrace side earned an 182 run victory over Gomersal, previous leaders Farsley succumbed to Manningham Mills.

Gomersal, however, were plunged to the bottom of the table, a point behind Baildon.

Mason skilfully struck nine sixes and 20 fours in his innings and faced 123 deliveries. He received good support from opener Scott Richardson who helped himself to 66. The pair shared a second wicket stand of 84 while Mason also put on 81 with Chris Brice (16).

Gomersal tried five different bowlers but only Shahzaib Khan made any impact as collected 4-92 in his 10 over spell.

Gomersal’s reply got off to a poor start as dangerman, Andrew Gorrod, was removed without scoring.

Danny Lloyd (22) and Khan (48) tried to hold back the tide but early wickets for Pieter Swanepoel (1-25) and Richard Spittlehouse (2-42) were but a prelude to left arm spinner Brice who swept through the middle order and tail finishing with 6-26 from nine overs to send Gomersal crashing to 133 all out in 28.3 overs.

Hanging Heaton confirmed their recent revival with a 27 run victory over Undercliffe.

Mark Lawson was promoted to opener and showed he was in terrific form striking a half-century in 42 balls and racking up his 100 in 104 balls, He went on to make 140, including 16 fours and two sixes.

Joe Fraser came in at three and maintained the upbeat tempo helping himself to a hard working 87 while James Stansfield who has been in form in recent weeks posted a valuable 47 as Heaton set a challenging target of 291-4.

Yasir Abbas with 2-83 was the pick of the Undercliffe bowlers.

To their credit Undercliffe were given a good start by opener Ammer Mirza 30 and Zarak Khan took up the baton with 85 the momentum continued with Ben Heritage (51) and Ashley Metcalfe (41).

But they fell behind the asking rate as John Carruthers delivered one of his best hauls of the season to finish with 5-72 from 14.3 overs helping to dismiss Undercliffe for 264.

East Bierley are third bottom of Division One after a 56 run home defeat to neighbours Cleckheaton.

The visitors’ Mark Cummins played a steady innings for his 73 and by the time he was the fifth wicket to fall Cleckheaton had made 167. They continued to build with Tim Jackson (37) and James Lee (23). It helped Cleckheaton to 199-7.

Kez Ahmed did most of the damage for Bierley with 3-55 while Lee Jarvis claimed 2-43.

East Bierley’s reply was spearheaded by opener Gharib Razak (52), Andrew Rennison (27) and Gavin Hamilton (21).

Cleckheaton maintained the upper hand with some fine bowling displays from James Lee who claimed 5-49. Andrew Deegan weighed in with 2-19 and Ian Wood produced a smart 2-6 to help dismiss Bierley for 143.

East Bierley are 10th with 95 points while Cleckheaton are a place above with 101 points.

In Division Two Hartshead Moor returned to winning form with a three wicket win over Keighley at Lawkholme Lane.

The home side set a challenging target of 218 led by Freddy Pearson with 81 and supported by Richard Robinson 42, and Max Davidson 34. Wickets fell at regular intervals with Mark Riley at the forefront with 4-22 from a six over spell while Jonahtan Gould and Daniel Squire claimed two wickets apiece.

Moor were given a strong platform as opener Graham Hilton laid down 41, captain Simon North added 40 and Gould saw them to the winning post with a well crafted 88.

The win has seen Moor move from 11th place, just above the re-election places, to a more comfortable ninth.

Spen Victoria are just a place below Moor after a 33 run defeat at home to Great Horton.

In an entertaining match Great Horton set out their stall making 282-8.

Suleman Khan led the way with 115. Nick Rushworth engineered two run outs and there were two wickets each for Joel Pollard and Mahboob Hussain.

Rushworth gave Spen a promising start with 64 with good support from Tosh Baker with 31.

George Deegan kept the scorers busy with 39 and Rob Burton and Joel Pollard 33 also made good contributions but Great Horton’s bowlers proved too accurate as Khan and Altaf Mohammad took three wickets each to restrict Spen to 249-8.
