Fans wanted for the RFL’s Wembley statue panel

Rugby League’s governing body last year agreed terms with Wembley to unveil a statue at the iconic venue and has already identified many of the supporters’ favourites who have graced the hallowed turf down the years.

Now, the selection process for the Wembley statue has moved on to the next level with a series of panels representing the various strands of the game’s family charged with coming up with a definitive design for the culturally significant piece of public art.

The varying panels will comprise past and present players, coaches, administrators and the media and will sit over the next few months to consider the selection criteria.

Now, the RFL is recruiting members of the public to sit on the dedicated fans’ panel, which will meet later this month to determine who should be represented on the plinth outside Wembley, which hosted its first Rugby League match with the Challenge Cup final in 1929.

Fans are asked to submit an application stating (in 100 words or less) why they feel they are qualified to sit on the panel.

Candidates should be aged 18 or over, have a strong interest in, or knowledge of Rugby League and be able to attend a daytime meeting in Manchester on Monday April 23.
