Fellows’ fine century sets up clash with cup holders

Gary Fellows hit 10 fours and eight sixes on his way to an unbeaten 116 not out as Hanging Heaton eased into the Heavy Woollen Cup second round.

Heaton sealed a 10-wicket win over Central Yorkshire League newcomers Great Preston in last Sunday’s first round tie.

Great Preston posted 186-8, with Australian Matthew King (53) top scoring.

Fellows hit 10 fours and eight sixes on his way to 116 not out, while Nick Connolly (65no) supported in an unbroken first wicket stand of 189 as Heaton eased home in 23.4 overs.

Holders Pudsey Congs made the day’s highest score of 447-6 as they crushed Bradford League newcomers Scholes by 358 runs.

Andrew Bairstow (87), Babar Butt (78), Callum Geldart (77), Nick Lindley (72) and Luke Holroyd (50) ensured there would be no upset before Scholes were restricted to 79-6 in reply.

Woodlands also posted a 400-plus total to ease into the second round at the expense of Mirfield Parish Cavaliers.

Chris Brice led the way with a fine 109, while Duncan Snell (84) and Greg Finn (50no) helped Woodlands to 415.

Parish battled to 181 in reply as Daniel Hope made an unbeaten 84, with support from Bash Khan (45) and Sajid Khan (44).

Moorlands bowed out at the hands of New Farnley, who had opener Matthew Good in sparkling form, making 132 as Farnley reached 268-8 before restricting Moorlands to 140 all out.

Gomersal overseas player Ben Hyde made 60 and Jack Seddon 53 as they reached 222 before spinner Craig Woodhead (6-16) dismissed Baildon for 109.

There was a thrilling finish to the game at Townville, where Birstall were edged out by seven runs.

Townville were dismissed for 150 as Robert Pearl (3-19) and Saif Ur Rehman (3-21) impressed but Birstall were all out for 143 in reply as Peter Hepworth (4-22) and Anurag Verma (3-23) did the damage.

Hartshead Moor suffered a 120-run defeat to CYL Premier champions Methley, who made 306-7 thanks to the efforts of Richard Foster (84), Dan Broadbent (76) and Eddie Walmsley (53no).

George Saville (50) and Adil Ladak (43) led Hartshead’s reply but they were bowled out for 186

Spen Victoria lost by 69 runs at Huddersfield League side Scholes, who posted 238.

Although Peter Jackson made a battling 66, Spen were restricted to 169-9.

Liversedge also bowed out to Huddersfield League opposition in Kirkburton.

Liversedge made 232-6 with contributions from Will Atkin (66no), Paul Marlow (41) and Graeme Winn (37).

However, Kirkburton eased to 234-2 thanks to an unbroken third-wicket stand by J Butterfield (95no) and I Khan (79no).
