Fozzard presents exchange awards

Shaw Cross Sharks old boy Nick Fozzard, who went on to become a Super League star, returned to present the real Man of Steel Trophy.

Nick, now commercial manager at Castleford Tigers presented the Man of Steel Trophy to Dale Smith who plays in the Sharks Under-15s side.

The actual trophy was won by former GB captain, Ellery Hanley in 1989 and he later presented it to Cross to be awarded to the outstanding player on their French exchange tour.

Nick also presented a trophy for the junior player of the tour to Nick Davies of the Sharks’ Under-14s side.

Nick recalled taking part in one of the exchange tours and said it was an experience he would never forget. Earlier, secretary Dougie Hird told how the exchange began in 1970 and said now more than 1,700 boys had taken part.
