Impressive first half effort helps Boys ease to cup win

The Boys raced into a 34-0 interval lead and although they eased off in the second half, had done enough to book a second round tie at home to Illingworth later this month.

Batley started strongly and opened the scoring when impressive work from Rob Bingham allowed him to go over for a try, converted by Mick Dyson.

Batley maintained the pressure with good runs from Aaron James, Josh Whitehead, Nathan Lumb and Rob Bingham taking them into Ryhill territory.

Whitehead ended the move, crossing for his first try, which Dyson improved.

Mark Grayshon was next to score, with Dyson’s third goal putting the Boys 18-0 ahead but they refused to ease off and Richard Moody added his name to the scorers, with Dyson again landing the goal.

Bingham crossed for his second, converted by Dyson, and Batley scored a sixth first-half try through Lewis Hardy.

Dyson was unable to convert but the Boys had one foot in the second round having built a 34-0 lead.

Batley seemed to ease off in the second half and Ryhill took advantage of that to keep them at bay for a spell.

Batley eventually worked the ball out to Josh Richter, who added a seventh try before Whitehead crossed for his second, both converted by Dyson.

Ryhill hit back and were rewarded with a consolation converted try.

Boys man-of-the-match was Sean Sheard, followed by Bingham and Whitehead, with Sheard also taking top tackler, followed by Ashley Slater and Aaron James.

Batley travel to Kings Cross Park on Saturday.
