KBW boxers clinch Yorkshire title treble

Ismail Khan, Adnan Khan, and Subhan Ahmed clinched Yorkshire titles, Osama Kaleem was edged out in his final, while Adam Shakil suffered a narrow semi-final defeat.

KBW’s Subhan Ahmed was first up as he met Leon Moulds of Sheffield City ABC and the Bradford schoolboy made a dominant and aggressive start, forcing his opponent onto the back foot.

The referee administered a standing eight count in the first and second rounds before stopping the bout in the third as Ahmed clinched the Yorkshire 50kg title.

Osama Kaleem then met Hull’s Liam Gibbons in the 57kg Yorkshire final with the KBW man landing the more decisive blows in the first round.

Gibbons adjusted to Kaleem’s style, forcing the Dewsbury man onto the back foot to take the next two sessions to clinch the title.

KBW’s Adnan Khan pulled off a huge upset when he defeated Brandon Churm of St Peters Boxing Club in the 60kg final.

Adnan was only competing in his third bout, against the vastly experienced Churm, who had previously competed in over 20 competitive bouts.

Adnan came out aggressively, landing some heavy blows to the head and body as he rocked Churm in the opening few seconds.

The referee gave a standing eight count but soon stopped the contest when he saw Churm was in no condition to continue, declaring Khan the Yorkshire champion.

KBW’s Ismail Khan was due to meet Connor Doyle, of the Gladiators Gym, in the 52kg final but his opponent was forced to pull out and the Dewsbury man claimed the Yorkshire title by default.

A fifth KBW boxer, Adam Shakil, suffered a narrow defeat to Kane Salvin in the semi-finals in Barnsley last Friday.

Shakil had beaten Salvin with a unanimous decision two weeks earlier and he started well, landing the cleaner shots in the first round only for Salvin to take the next two rounds and book his place in Sunday’s Yorkshire final.
