Leaders suffer defeat

HEAVY Woollen League Premier Division leaders The Scotland’s bid for the title suffered a blow last Sunday as they lost 1-0 at fourth place Towgate thanks to Danny Facey’s lone strike.

The Scotland led second place Heckmondwike Town by four points, having played a game more going into the midweek matches.

Littletown moved into mid-table safety after Duane Bywood and Aiden Schofield netted in a 2-0 win at Birkenshaw. Tingley WMC’s game with Thornhill Lees was postponed.

Division One leaders Thirsty Man moved to the brink of promotion last Sunday following a 5-3 win against fellow hopefuls Oakwell Motel. Lamin Bojang, Lee Ryan, Jermaine Davies, Scott Ryan and Patrick Davies netted for Thirsty Man, with Johnny Beverley, Gareth Scott and Lee Scott scoring for Oakwell, who still have an outside chance of going up.

Mirfield Town ended their season with a 3-2 win at Scholes Athletic thanks to a Tom Wilks hat-trick.

AFC Chickenley beat relegation threatened Howden Clough 7-2 thanks to doubles from Shaun McDaid and Michael Chadwick, plus strikes from Gary Fuller, Aaron Dewhirst and Simon Moffatt. Andrew Daisey and Stefan Godbold replied for Clough. Relegated Overthorpe Town enjoyed a 4-1 win at Hartshead with Ashley Hill and Kristian Angus scoring two each. Town keeper Steve Holt was man of the match after saving two penalties.
