Liversedge gear up for Thackley derby

LIVERSEDGE FC are gearing up for an eagerly anticipated Northern Counties East League Premier Division derby on Saturday when they welcome Thackley to Clayborn (kick-off 3pm).

Eric Gilchrist has instilled confidence to the Clayborners since returning for a second spell in charge.

They won their opening three league games but that fine run came to an end on Tuesday when they went down 3-1 at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Liversedge are also in action on Monday when they travel to Bridlington to take on Scarborough Athletic.

LIVERSEDGE recorded a third straight victory in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday.

Sedge could have had the game wrapped up by half-time but were left hanging on after Hall Road produced a late fightback.

Liversedge created early chances as Gibril Bojang, whose pace caused Hall Road problems all afternoon, closed down a defender and Joe Jagger fired over.

James Riordan then made a good run but he also shot over before Liversedge took a 15th minute lead.

Kieran Corley fed Jagger and he produced a great strike to fire the visitors ahead.

Jagger held the ball up and laid it off for Corley to fire home and double the lead.

Two minutes later, Jerrard Peltier sent Jagger through on goal and he produced another great finish.

Tate Williams also struck the base of a post on the stroke of half-time.

Liversedge continued to dominate after the break and Rob Bartram set up a chance for Peltier but he shot wide.

Matty Fyvie pulled a goal back for Hall Road after 65 minutes.

Sedge introduced striker Danny Toronczak, who has returned to the club to rejoin Gilchrist, while Matty Thompson also came off the bench.

Paul Wilson broke through and lobbed the goalkeeper from outside the area to make it 3-2 but although there were a couple of anxious moments in the final five minutes, Sedge deservedly held on.

Liversedge: Hargreen, Bartram, Hill, Peltier, leach, Riordan, Williams, Hewitt, Jagger (Toronczak 70), Bojang, Corley (Thompson 70).

n Tate Williams gave Liversedge a third minute lead against Armthorpe on Tuesday but Welfare hit back to lead at half-time with goals from Richard Smith and Joe Lumsden, who sealed victory with his second 11 minutes from full-time.

n Liversedge Reserves opened their Lancashire Reserve League campaign with a 1-0 win over Ossett Albion last Saturday. Glynn Haley’s thunderous strike earned all three points, while goalkeeper James Waggett made a number of quality saves.

Liversedge travel to Farsley Celtic Reserves in the league this Saturday.
