The international representative side will be jetting off to Jamaica this summer, challenging a host of local teams during a two-week stay in the country.

Hunter says he is delighted to have been called up for the squad and the 19-year-old three-quarter, who also plays in the halves, is looking forward to an exciting summer ahead, with the Stags’ successful Pennine League campaign coming to a close.

Hunter said: “It is overwhelming to have been given the nod.

“I toured with the BARLA Under-19s in Canada last year and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

“To be selected again – and get the chance to visit another new country, while playing the sport I love – is phenomenal.”

The call-up comes on the back of an impressive campaign with Mirfield, which has seen Richard Silverwood’s side power to the Pennine League Championship summit.

Former Birstall Victoria player Hunter added: “I think I have settled in quite well and the lads and Richard (Silverwood) have been very welcoming and helpful.

“I think the try I scored on my debut for the club (against West Leeds) has to be the stand out moment so far.

“I hope to push my playing career to the next level in the summer and hopefully end up signing a professional contract.”

The Stags are holding a Jamaican-themed fundraising evening at The Saville Arms pub, in Mirfield to help with Hunter’s tour costs.
