Moorlands firing on two fronts as Hopton Mills aim to extend fine run

Moorlands are level on 78 points with second placed Batley and just one behind leaders Carlton going into their final three matches of the campaign and know their promotion bid could hinge on tomorrow’s round of results.

Batley, who have a game in hand on both their promotion rivals, entertain Methley A tomorrow and will fancy their chances of moving top if Moorlands overcome Carlton.

Moorlands sit out next week’s round of matches, Carlton’s blank date is on Saturday September 3, while Batley visit Memorial Park on the final day of the season in what could yet prove to be a winner takes all clash.

Moorlands are having their best season in many years, having also reached the semi-finals of the Jack Hampshire Cup, and they have qualified for the Yorkshire Council Play-offs supplementary competition.

Moorlands have been paired away to South Yorkshire side Kexborough in Sunday’s quarter-final (1pm) and the final few weeks of the season are set to provide further excitement for the Mirfield outfit.

Another side with promotion aspirations are Hopton Mills, who have produced a terrific run of form to move second in Division Two.

Hopton have won seven of their last eight matches, picking up a staggering 42 points in the process, and they will be looking to extend that run when they entertain Townville A tomorrow.

Hopton are just a point above third placed Wrenthorpe A going into the final four games.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers should be safe from the threat of relegation in the Premier Division but they can have a say in the battle against the drop as they travel to third-bottom Birstall.

Hanging Heaton will return to Bradford & Bingley for the second time in four days tomorrow for a crucial game in their quest to avoid relegation from Bradford League Division One.

Heaton were facing the prospect of three trips to Bingley this week but they lost to the hosts in the Twenty20 Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

Bingley were due to meet Cleckheaton in the final of that competition under floodlights last night.

Hanging Heaton will stage the Black Sheep Yorksahire Champions Trophy final on Sunday when Wrenthorpe take on Whitley Hall (1pm).
