Lee Greenwood’s side kicked off their 2020 season last Friday night as they suffered a 36-10 defeat to Leigh Centurions after a competitive first half.

Swinton won 14-0 at newly-promoted Whitehaven, with a top defensive display securing the two points for the Lions in muddy conditions.

Stuart Littler’s side showed plenty of grit in defence, preventing their hosts from registering a single point, highlighting the tough task that awaits Dewsbury on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Greenwood felt that last week’s scoreline against Leigh wasn’t a fair reflection of the effort put in by his side.

He said: “I was disappointed with the scoreline, I thought it was a closer game than what the score showed. I thought we were very competitive for the majority of the game.

“That is one team that has spent a lot of money to try and get promotion, the effort from the lads for an hour is tremendous.”

He added: “Results against Leigh aren’t where our season will be shaped but lets look at the positives and hopefully next time we play Leigh we’ll play even better.”
