Plucky Liversedge denied as Tadcaster strike late on

Kieran Corley scored in Liversedges 3-1 County Cup defeat to Tadcaster on Tuesday and bagged a brace in last Saturdays 4-2 victory over Maltby Main in the NCE Premier Division.

Sedge stunned the Northern Counties East League Premier Division leaders as Kieran Corley gave the visitors a third minute lead.

It remained 1-0 at half-time and Liversedge preserved their advantage until 15 minutes from time when Tadcaster struck three late blows to deny the Clayborners.

George Bissett equalised with a 75th minute goal before Andrew Milne gave Tadcaster the lead seven minutes from full-time.

Liversedge’s brave effort was finally ended in the last minute when Albion were awarded a penalty, which Callum Ward despatched to send his side into the quarter-finals.

The roles were reversed last Saturday when two goals in the final four minutes saw Liversedge secure a 4-2 victory over Maltby Main in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Sedge were ahead after just two minutes when Andy Wood’s shot was fumbled by the goalkeeper and Corley was on hand to tap home.

Gary Hibbitt levelled with a 26th minute free-kick but Wood restored the home side’s lead, firing home from inside the area and it remained 2-1 at half-time.

Sam Dobbs made a terrific save from a Maltby header early in the second half but a Declan Dawson own goal, following a corner, drew the visitors level once more.

Sedge pressed and were rewarded with an 86th minute goal when Ely Hey headed home after the ball was played back across goal by Waugh.

Sedge pressed again in the final minute and Hey found Corley, who turned in the area and fired home to secure all three points.

Liversedge Under-19s maintained their healthy lead at the top of the Northern Youth Alliance.

Brad Patefield, Vaughan Redford (two) and Jake Bell scored as Sedge overcame Thackley 4-0 last Thursday and they followed it up with a 6-1 thrashing of Ossett Albion on Monday evening.

Redford scored after 35, 60 and 80 minutes to register a hat-trick and take his tally to five goals in two games, with Jack Garland, Charlie Howarth and Bell also on target, while Liversedge created a host of other chances in a dominant display.
