Centre Wood faces scan after suffering knee injury

Dewsbury Rams have revealed centre or winger Sam Wood requires an MRI scan after sustaining a knee injury at work.

The scan results will provide a clear indication of the seriousness of the injury and when Wood is likely to be available to return to training.

Wood joined the club on a permanent basis ahead of the 2015 season, after impressing during a dual-registration spell last year and came off the bench for the Kingstone Press Championship opening round win over Sheffield Eagles.

Forward Zach Johnson will undergo surgery next week following a serious knee injury picked up during the pre-season victory over London Broncos.

Johnson, who signed from Swinton Lions in the close season, following a successful spell in the amateur game with Shaw Cross Sharks, faces a 12-month recovery period before he is able to resume full training.

Johnson featured for the Rams in pre-season matches against Newcastle Thunder, Salford Red Devils and London Broncos but is yet to make his competitive debut.

Forward Jobe Murphy has taken the difficult decision to retire from rugby league due to increased work commitments.

Murphy has struggled to meet the Rams’ first team training schedule during the past six weeks and was unable to feature in the squad who faced Sheffield a fortnight ago, with coach Glenn Morrison reluctantly having to accept the forward’s decision.

Murphy said: “I’m finding it impossible to meet training requirements and it wouldn’t be right for me or the squad as a whole for that to continue.”
