Slideshow: Hunslet Old Boys defeat Thornhill Trojans in cup final

Trojans were hoping to register their first ever triumph in the final but it was Hunslet who dominated and Thornhill’s only score came in the last minute when Adam Bird’s consolation try was converted by Andrew Bates.

Old Boys prop and man of the match Jamie Fields broke the deadlock with a self-converted try on the quarter-hour and it was 10-0 on 27 minutes thanks to Kieran Murphy’s touch-down.

The Hunslet side started the second period in the same vein, Jerome Malcolm surging over and Rocky Price adding the extras.

Ricky Hazelwood’s dazzling try, converted by Fields, made it 22-0 and Malcolm notched his second of the game on the hour.

Craig Miles bagged Old Boys’ sixth try of the game, Fields adding the conversion, before Trojans finally opened their account in the dying seconds.

Trojans boss James Ratcliffe said: “We saved our worst performance in three years for our most important game.

“The best side won, I have to look at myself for this defeat. Maybe I put too much pressure on the players.”

A jubilant McShane said: “It was our best display of the season. We stuck to our game plan and our defence was terrific.

“Every player did what he had to do and we came up with a result we deserved.”
