Surprise call-ups planned as injury crisis grips Rams

The Rams could be without 11 first team players for Sunday’s crucial Kingstone Press Championship trip to high flying Halifax (kick off 3pm).

Stephen Nash and Ewan Dowes are rated very doubtful after limping out of last week’s game against Barrow with knee injuries.

Tommy Gallagher, a natural front row replacement, then turned an ankle in training on Wednesday and could also be ruled out.

Morrison said: “I don’t think any other side would be without 11 of their starting 17 players and we are four front rowers short so we are not sure what the team will be.”

Morrison is contemplating playing full-back Louis Sheriff in the pack, along with half-back Jonathan Schofield, who has yet to figure this season.

Dewsbury have also taken the unusual step of recalling Jason Muranka from Gloucester All Golds.

Morrison explained: “Jason is a local lad, having played with Dewsbury Celtic, and we sent him out to Gloucester with a view to having a look at him.

“The difference in levels is huge and I don’t want to throw him in at the deep end against such a big pack but we might have to.

“He has been doing well in various positions at Gloucester and sometimes throwing a player in with such a big game can be the making of them.”

Dewsbury go into the Halifax game fifth in the Championship, seven points clear of the relegation zone and six behind fourth-placed Doncaster.

Morrison added: “We want to finish as high as we can and getting fourth place would be great but with the crisis we have got, we must look at getting as many points as we can.”
