Scholes seal derby win to close on leaders

Scholes have reduced the gap on Bradford League Division Two leaders Morley to just five points.

Morley recorded an emphatic 10-wicket win over Windhill but Scholes picked a maximum haul of 20 points with a 67-run win at Gomersal.

Joel Pollard (4-28) and Chris Rhodes (3-40) helped reduce Scholes to 73-5 early on before they recovered to make a useful 226-9.

Liam Thomas led the Scholes recovery with an unbeaten 53.

Ben Hyde (45), Josh Fell (37) and Jonathan Boynton (35) led the Gomersal reply but they were dismissed for 159 as Joe Duffy took 4-33.

Morley’s victory earned them 15 points as they dismissed Windhill for just 90 and knocked off the runs without losing a wicket.

Dave Nebard (4-21) and Matthew Dowse (4-27) did the damage with the ball before James McNichol (61no) and Richard Jubb (27no) finished Windhill off.

Spen Victoria’s Matt Garside became only the third wicketkeeper in league history to pass 5,000 runs and claim 500 wickets as he helped his side defeat Brighouse.

Garside claimed his 500th victim as Brighouse were dismissed for 128 and although Spen were reduced to 5-3 in reply, they secured a five-wicket win thanks to Zarak Khan (44) and Sohail Khan (40no).

Hartshead Moor suffered an agonising one-wicket defeat at home to Keighley

Hartshead were dismissed for 143 and although Danny Squire claimed 5-44 in reply, Keighley edged home thanks largely to the efforts of Jonathan Wilkinson (35) and Humayun Shahzad (33).
