Scoreline harsh on determined Liversedge

Parkgate 4

Liversedge 1

LIVERSEDGE suffered defeat at Parkgate in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday although their performance was better than the scoreline suggests.

The visitors played well for long periods but they were unable to take anything from the game as Parkgate proved more clinical in front of goal.

Liversedge almost took a second minute lead when Rob Bordman broke through and chipped the goalkeeper only for his effort to rebound off the corner of post and crossbar.

Nathan Cartman was first to react to the rebound but the Parkgate goalkeeper got back to claw his effort off the line.

Liversedge took a 15th minute lead when James Hurtley fed Alex Hallam and Jerry White made an overlapping run before sending over a great cross which Dave Bordman slotted into the roof of the net.

Sedge also hit a post as they continued to have the better of the game before a mistake saw them fail to clear their lines and when the ball was played back into the area, Matthew Outram slotted home the equaliser.

Hallam broke through and knocked the ball beyond the goalkeeper but a defender was alert to clear it off the line.

Jerry White cleared a Pargate effort off the line at the other end and a lively first half ended 1-1.

The stalemate remained until the 66th minute, when a quickfire brace from Nathan Forbes-Swindells put Parkgate in control.

Forbes-Swindells gave Danny Knight no chance with a stunning 35-yard strike and just a minute later the same player turned inside the area to slot home and make it 3-1.

Damien Hopkins had a shot well saved and as Liversedge pushed up late on, Parkgate broke and Keir Hannity raced from halfway to slot home and give the final scoreline a flattering look.
